Instructors/Residential Care Workers (RCW)
Instructors/Residential Care Workers (RCW) provide direct service programming including delivery of the intensive therapeutic and behaviour management program, facilitating adventure activities ranging from games/initiatives, low and high ropes course and challenge course activities, leading wilderness expeditions, and supporting the school program. Instructors typically possess a relevant college certificate or university degree and some work experience relevant to working with youth in an adventure setting. Instructors are required to have, or quickly obtain minimum certifications for Bronze Cross, First Aid/CPR level B, and F-class driver’s license. A medical note indicating that the candidate is fit for duties and a criminal reference check (CPIC) and vulnerable sector screen (VSS) are also required. Instructors are paid a variable per diem based on work experience, services provided, and level of responsibility. Working a minimum average of eighteen days per month, typical annual income ranges from $32,000-$40,000 plus benefits including an extended health care plan. Program Support Officers (PSO)
Program Support Officers (PSO) provide services such as awake night supervision, transporting students for admission or appointments, supporting behavioural interventions, facility rounds, general maintenance, and other program support duties. PSOs must possess or obtain a criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screen (CPIC and VSS), an F-class driver’s license, Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification, and a medical note indicating that the candidate is fit for duties. New employees will be provided with relevant on-the-job training. Irregularly scheduled part-time PSOs are paid $13.00 – $15.00/hour and full time regular schedule PSOs earn $17.25/hour plus benefits.
Internships & Placements
Wendigo Lake Expeditions is a teaching facility with a long history of providing internships and placements. College students enrolled in a field of study relevant to our work typically engage in an internship or placement of two to four months. Many of our current staff began as Interns. While interns or placement students receive no payment for work, they may be provided with free room and board and are loaned the necessary gear for wilderness expeditions.
